Are You Experiencing Premature Menopause?

You're not alone — and you deserve real answers.

What your symptoms might be telling you

If you're under 40 and experiencing irregular or absent periods, hot flashes, night sweats, brain fog, mood changes, fatigue, or difficulty conceiving — your body may be signalling something that is more common than most people realize. These symptoms are often the first signs of a condition called Primary Ovarian Insufficiency (POI) — also known as premature menopause, early menopause, or premature ovarian failure. It affects approximately 1 in 100 women under 40, yet it is frequently missed, misdiagnosed, and poorly supported. Women with POI deserve comprehensive testing, screening, and evidence-based treatment — and too often that simply isn't offered.

If you've been told your symptoms are stress, anxiety, or "just hormones" — it may be time to look deeper.

What is Primary Ovarian Insufficiency?

POI is a condition in which the ovaries stop functioning as expected before the age of 40. Unlike natural menopause, POI doesn't always mean a complete or permanent loss of ovarian function — many women with POI still have intermittent ovarian activity, and the condition presents differently from person to person.

A POI diagnosis can feel overwhelming and isolating. Most women leave their appointment with more questions than answers. Understanding what is actually happening in your body is the essential first step — and that's exactly where I come in.

How I can help

My name is Kelly Clinning and I'm a licensed Naturopathic Doctor practicing virtually across Ontario. POI is a central focus of my practice — and I have a personal reason for doing so. I was diagnosed with POI myself. I know firsthand how disorienting this diagnosis can feel, how much conventional medicine often leaves unanswered, and how much of a difference the right support can make.

My approach is comprehensive, evidence-based, and built entirely around you.

What working with me looks like

We start with thorough lab work Most women with premature menopause symptoms have never had a complete hormonal workup. I run detailed lab panels to fully understand your hormonal picture, assess bone health markers, metabolic function, and identify any contributing factors. This is the foundation everything else is built on.

We build a plan together Based on your labs, your symptoms, and your goals — whether that's fertility, symptom management, protecting your long-term bone and cardiovascular health, or simply understanding what this diagnosis means for your body — we create a realistic, individualized plan together.

Treatment may include:

  • Bioidentical hormone therapy (HRT/BHRT) — an important tool for symptom management and long-term health protection. Not all Naturopathic Doctors in Ontario are licensed to prescribe hormone therapy. I hold an additional prescribing qualification and have completed advanced training that allows me to prescribe and manage hormone therapy as part of a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan.

  • Evidence-based supplementation to support hormonal health and bone density

  • Dietary and lifestyle strategies tailored to your specific needs

  • Collaborative care alongside your gynaecologist, fertility specialist, or endocrinologist

What is a Naturopathic Doctor?

If you're unfamiliar with naturopathic medicine, here's what's important to know. A licensed Naturopathic Doctor (ND) in Ontario completes four years of accredited postgraduate medical training following an undergraduate degree. NDs are trained to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness — and in Ontario, licensed NDs with additional prescribing qualifications can prescribe medications including hormone therapy.

What sets naturopathic medicine apart is the depth of time, investigation, and individualization we bring to each patient. Where a conventional appointment may last 10–15 minutes, I work with patients over extended visits to truly understand the full picture of their health.

This is for you if…

  • You're under 40 and experiencing symptoms of premature menopause

  • You've received a POI diagnosis and feel lost about what comes next

  • You've been told everything is "normal" but know something isn't right

  • You want a thorough, evidence-based approach — not a quick fix

  • You're looking for someone who truly understands this diagnosis
