Fertility

The fertility world can be complex, frustrating and expensive to navigate. Naturopathic treatment provides additional support to both individuals and couples dealing with these complexities.

Depending on your unique case, goals of treatment will include:

  • Restoring ovulation and regular cycling

  • Improving egg and semen quality

  • Modulating sex hormones

  • Improving thyroid function

Treatment can also support patients who are experiencing chronic miscarriages by identifying what individual factors are contributing such as low thyroid function, low progesterone production, or insulin resistance (a common cause in women with PCOS).

Treatment can be used to improve pregnancy and implantation rates alongside IUI, IVF, ICSI or on its own.

Assessment

The first step in fertility treatment is to determine what factors are at play in you and/or your partner’s body. These include:

  • Disorders of ovulation (PCOS, hypothalamic amenorrhea, hyperprolactinemia)

  • Hormonal imbalance (low thyroid function, low progesterone, high or low testosterone)

  • Anatomical disorders (large fibroids, blocked fallopian tubes, retrograde ejaculation)

  • Infection (STIs)

  • Diet and lifestyle factors impacting egg and sperm quality (Smoking, alcohol, stress, weight)

Treatment

We use diet and lifestyle, botanical medicine, nutrition and acupuncture to optimize overall health and impact the underlying causes identified.

For those who have been diagnosed with ‘idiopathic infertility’, meaning that a root cause has not been identified, the cornerstone of treatment will be to optimize egg and semen quality through nutrition and supplementation.

For couples or individuals undergoing IUI, ICSI or IVF, naturopathic treatments have been found to increase success rates along with conventional treatments. Acupuncture is utilized to increase implantation rates in ICSI and IVF and to regulate menstrual cycles when needed.
